Thanks everyone for all your help and camaraderie!

I’m thrilled with the end product and look forward to my daughter using this bike for years to come.

As this is probably one of the least desirable bikes as far as collecting or projects go, I don’t build them to sit, I build em to ride!

I’m like 75% to 25% on bikes with patina.

for the most part, most of my builds I keep the original patina and tear the thing apart, replace or restore all bearings, put on all new “running gear“ (wheels, tires, chain, crank, etc.) and cover the frame in boiled linseed oil.

a small portion of bikes I’ll strip and paint, but I do like the look of original patina with BLO mixed with the function and comfort of modern components.

when I take the bikes out, most people do a double take. They’re not sure if they’re looking at an old rust bucket or new bike!

its both! Ha-ha!

the rims were actually the luck of the draw…. Some dude had a 24” big box bike on Craigslist for $20…. And I just bought it for the wheels and tires!

Jude, you really pulled out that original patina, and complimented it with the wheel / tire combo. That seat bag and phone bring it into the new millennium, but still fit the vibe of the bike. Well done! She's gonna love it!
