piced up 2 sachs torpedos 3 speed coaster hub today,i heard they are very good hubs, has anyone used these hubs and how were they?

Hey 5Speed,
I've got 2 Sach hubs. A 2speed torpedo automatic (not kickback)
that I've rebuilt and I like it a lot
It's perfect for my wife but it has it's limitations, shifts at about 9.5 mph

I have a 3 speed coaster that I haven't been through yet
But I took it out when I first bought it and the older replacement shifter went between gears
Ended up in neutral and without brakes

Not sure if they are more sensitive to shifter operation or adjustment than Sturmey Archer
I've got an idea to use a more positive shifter with an additional type of heavy spring for position tolerance (similar to Nexus 3speed's spring loaded shift pin)

I'd appreciate anybody else's feed back on these hubs too.

Found this video of a rebuild

UdallCustomBikes is a super hub expert too

BTW, I'll see you at the swap meet, thanks for the ID
Maybe we can talk about it more

Good Luck
Steve

I've got a Sachs Duomatic, Automatic, and single speed coaster hub. I've only used the Duomatic 2 speed kickback so far. It's great, super fun, lighter than the Bendix version but it doesn't brake/stop very well. I mean, it does....but not like my other coaster hubs.

I have a Duomatic as well. It is an awesome hub. I liked the gear ratio on the Bendix kick back better, but the sprocket on the Duomatic can be swapped out and now it is one of my favorites. I like the Sachs Komet Super single speed hubs as well. I don't have any experience with their three speeds, but if they are of the same quality as the others it must be good.
