This is my first bike project(still in the beginning stages) ...I got this bike in a trade with everything original. I hated the handlebars so I added some black apes...swapped the saddle, added matching EZ hide grips...ditched the rack and guard...added a sweet shrunken head that I painted...and threw on some spade valve caps. I am wanting to add a 3 speed hub, some lights, maybe a tank...but my current budget won't allow it at this time.
Sorry for the crappy indoor pics...

probably just a dab of grease used....crack it open and lube it up!!!

Very cool - and DEFINITELY add grease or re-pack bearings where ever applicable on these bikes!
They're pretty decent riders considering the price, and a perfect project bike, they just need a bit of attention due to their Chinese build.

Here's a couple of projects I've done with the Del Mar, including red Weinmann wheels w/ black spokes, Nexus 3-spd. hub, '68 StingRay apes, Bontrager Cruzer 2.125 wide whites, chrome ducktail fenders and flamed banana set w/ sissy bar:

And the "hot rod" version:

Oh....wow....just WOW! What you did to that Del Mar is bad...very, very...bad. Those wheels look amazing on that.
I bet it rides like a dream with that 3 speed hub.
Since I'm not mechanically inclined at all...I sent my Del Mar to my LBS to have the coaster overhauled. 25.00+ parts I can live with.

Well, thanks!
And I'm no master bike mechanic really either, it's just the more you work on them, the easier and more logical it all becomes. So it'll come to you, especially if you like just tinkering around on them.
Good luck, and a great first start! It really looks great - you've obviously got a good eye. Next comes more money and experience!

last summer i was looking at maybe getting one of these del mars, but i already have a 09' cranbrook and an 08' next lajolla. i believe at this point that the aluminum wheels and hubs on your delmar are probably the same as on my cranbrook and lajolla as i know both mine are the same. i did discover grease inside them but added more and they got better. its all from china, so im not suprised. looks like alot of great project bikes going. :D
