Newest addition to the stable...guessing by the serial, it's pre-'48'. Sweetheart skiptooth, new departure coaster hub. Will make for a fun project for a graduation gift for my kid sis this summer.

And one of "next to newest"...my Mom's old Centurion Lemans, converted to flip-flop single speed, with fresh paint, and Velocity B-43's wrapped in Vittoria Randonneur 700x28's. Dug some old middleweight fenders out of the pile to cover for rainy days. Seat clamp, grips, and brake cable routing are all that is left to finish this one up.

so ya did end up getting the dx. sweet ride. it looks better than in the cell phone pic.

i wonder if you can remove that paint to expose the original color. looks like its scratching off easily.

nice ride brother!

I went in thinking it was a 1956-ish, but thought something was up when the skiptooth reared its head. It's in a lot better condition than I expected based on the phone pics. The guy is moving in a few days and wants to unload as much as possible, so I offered him 100...Eventually, he took 120 (down from 150), which I was good with paying. Maybe a little high, maybe low, but as long as I'm good with it, it's worth it. Checked the bunch-o-bikes serial number listing on my way home, and it looks to be pre-1948. I called my parents and told them about it, and I think my Dad is more stoked about it than I am

Thanks! :D

The paint is pretty shot and in the few spots that I can see down to the frame, there look to be at least 4 more colors under the faded teal it is right now. I think I will end up stripping it down to bare metal and powder-coating it, as it will be taking some abuse while my sister is in college. I'm still trying to get ok with the fact that it will be living on a bike rack outside her dorm or classes most of the time, so a GIANT FREAKIN' bike lock will be included with the gift.

Anybody (esp. with DX knowledge) is more than welcome to PM me with ideas/suggestions on a direction for this beast of a project. I am aiming for something polished and classy, but simple, so as not to attract TOO much attention from people with weak wills and sticky fingers. :?

Not overly familiar with this vintage of bike, but all the head badges I have seen for Schwinn have been ovals...When I got this thing out in the sun to fully inspect it and take some pics, I noticed the steps at the top of where the badge would have been.

Anybody know what would explain this? Schwinn use a different shape during this period, or is this maybe an aftermarket badge that was put on? After scratching some paint, it looks like the bike was only re-painted once. There is frame, white-ish (guessing primer), a dark blue, then the color it is now. The insides of the fenders still have the dark blue color as well as some areas around the b.b.

And it has a funky little odometer on the front wheel :?:

The outline of your head badge could be BF GOODRICH or schwinn AMERICAN typical to that shape..

Is there any significance to either of those as far as rarity goes, and/or is there a way of deciphering which it may be by serial number or scraping paint to find original artwork?
