I have a Schwinn occ chopper bike laying around and my uncle just gave me an old motor. Time to have some fun!
Now the engine my uncle gave me wasn't working. Sometimes the pull start would engage but other times it slipped. So I put a new starting clutch on. Engages every time! Then I went to Wawa and got a little bit of gas. Tried to start it up and wouldn't fire up. I cleaned the carb, didnt work, spark plug didn't work, etc. And after tweaking and cleaning everything I adjusted the idle on the carb and it fired right up! Now this week I'll work on getting it mounted and order some parts.
Here's the motor when I got it. It's an old 3.5 hp Briggs. My uncle said he got it at least 20 years ago. And it looks it!
The clutch is shot
Me letting her purr!
Took Dr. T's advice looked up the mounts. Turned out they are pretty simple so I fabricated my own.
The parts I picked up to get her started
Now I had a section of I beam laying around the garage. Don't ask why. But I cut off a flat piece to use.
I smoothed it out to make it even all around, cut it to size. Drafted out where I wanted the various holes and such not. Drilled holes to mount to the frame. Then mounted it. I didn't drill out the holes for the actual motor it was cold out lol
Got it attached to the frame! What do ya think?
Now to drill more holes for the motor, mod the frame a little so it fits, mount it, buy parts, mount them, breaks her down for paint, paint, build back up, then have funnnn!!!
