So theres a Schwinn Racer that has been parked in front of one of the dorms up here for a long time, hasn't really moved for the past month of so after it appeared. I first noticed it because it's in primo shape, perfect blue original paint, three speed rear hub, and one of those old baby seats on the back! The thing is mint, and every time I walk by I reluctantly go rip off the garbage mountain bike that other students lean/drop on it, and I can't stand to see it rot there any longer.

So I want to leave a note on it saying I'm interested in buying it, how much are these things worth? I was thinking about offering $75, but I'd like to go cheaper...any advice? Thanks.

Any idea what year it is? Price is a personal thing...It depends on the situation. I paid $22.50 for this one:

As you can see, it's far from "perfect"...Needs tires & tubes, normal wear and tear...So if it's worth $75 to you...Do you know who owns it? Maybe they don't even want to sell it...Good luck!

If it is that clean, it is definately worth the $75.00, you could offer him $25.00 but he will probably laugh at you and you will blow your chances to offer more.

I'm leaving a note for $50, thanks for the tips. I'll let you know what happens.

In two weeks it's finals week when everyone moves out, I've scoped out tons old Schwinn road bikes around here that haven't been touched since first quarter, I'm thinking it's time to print up a chain letter saying I'm interested in buying and leaving it on all of them. Just might work!

While at work I got a text message from the bike owner, she said "I really don't ride it much, so yes I'll sell it. $50 seems like to much, how about $25? I'm free now if you want to pick it up." Sadly I couldn't just run out of work, so I'm probably going to pick it up tomorrow night.

Stoked! Weird how this bike stuff works out for me when I put very little effort into it, it's the complete opposite with school...

Just picked it up! My friend and I were out riding bikes way out of town in the county, and I get a call from her asking if I can come pick it up around 5, and it was 4:40! He had a broken chain, but gave me the go ahead to abandon him and haul ass back to campus to pick it up. Got there right at five, two minutes later the bike was mine! Rode it back to my dorm, rides perfect, shifts great, and it looks brand new! Even down to the original stock s-5 Schwinn tires.

So stoked this worked out, I've been eyeing that for weeks. I'll take some nice photos outside later and post them in fresh finds, right now dorm room photos with my roommates laundry will have to work.
