Schwinn Spitfire

Hey everyone. I just came upon a Schwinn Spitfire - 3 speed - with drum brakes. Can anyone give me some insight as to what period of time it's from? I can't find anything on it anywhere!! Is it rare, valuable, what?

Get some photos up! The single best way to get info on a bike is pictures (they really do say 1,000 words!). There are some great historians here....but they will need to SEE it to give you anything.

In regards to how old it is- Schwinn serial numbers can give you the month and year and perhaps even the day. There are many databases on line to help you figure it out. Or just post it here and some will decode it for you.

Spitfires were lower end bikes and not really collectors stuff. Which is why I personally like them and the Tornado.
My '57 Spitfire. Mostly not original, but fun and rideable.

Here's my '55 Spitfire on todays ride. Mine is all original with the exception of the tires.

They switched from the twin tube balloon frame, like mine, to the cantilever middleweight frame like No Talent Clown's in '57.

Drum brakes makes me think it's one of the late 70s reissues, along with the Klunker 5 and the basic 'Cruiser'. Those are worth about as much as the og 50s bikes! -Adam
