Schwinn stick shift cable?

I have a Schwinn stick shifter that needs a cable. Is there anything special I need to get, or will any old cable from an LBS work?

Same cable end type you would use for the brake lever. Shifter cables nowadays usually have smaller barrel ends on them.

So I should be getting brake housing, not shifter housing then. Gotcha.

sorry for the late reply Crash, the older bikes still used the same housing for brakes and shifters, the coiled inner cables with a standard brake kit will work fine.

Yup, got a brake cable from an LBS on Friday. Fits right in there.
