Schwinn Tornado ID

Hello, I was wanting to ID my Double bar Schwinn



According to the chain guard it is a Schwinn Tornado.



It has S7 wheels. I remembered the wheels being smaller than they actually are and had been looking around for some 26" S7 wheels, today when I was cleaning it I realized it already has the S7 wheels washers for spacers and all. I'm assuming this was done later? The black pinstripe on the wheels seems to confirm this.

This is the only shot I got of the serial number. Can anyone help me decipher it? 1013931

Nice old bike. My cousin got one new in about '58 and that's the first 26" and the first Schwinn bike I ever rode. Gary

If that is a J before the numbers it's a march 1953 if it's a L it's jan.1954. Nice bike!!

Actually that would be a 1960.......
Or to be exact
09/02/1960 ------- J013816 ---------- J016014

1953 and 1954 would have only had 5 digits after the letter.

After 1958 they have 6 digits after the letter.

Nice bike, I have a 1960 Tornado I used for my build off bike RaTornado. Mine is an earlier '60 though

Also, the Tornado was introduced for the Christmas season, 1957, officially a 58 model. -Adam
