Watched this Elgin all week locally on ebay. Started at a buck no reserve. Went up to $20 the last day. I threw a big bid in at the last second and won it for $22! It was local pickup only, I know that helped, but I can't believe no one else bid on it! He also had the 2 girls bikes, paid $50 for it all!

I need help with the Elgin. I'm guessing mid to late 30's? Everything looks correct except for the aftermarket guard, maybe the pedals.
the dropstand and clip are missing, as well as the lights (he sold them seperate :x ) Everything moves on it

Thanks guys, I'm real excited about this one. Its solid as a rock. I think I'm going to clean it up, regrease it, and get some new tires/tubes and ride it!

Is there anyway to pin down what year/model this is? Can anyone tell me about the taillight on the rack? its a glass lens, says Doray on it. Looks like it was added on. Bike was either green, blue or black it looks like. Rims were chrome.

Some better daylight shots:

oh wait, scratch that...i thought you were one of the lucky ohio guys that constantly dig up gems..   . sweet win by the way

I wish I was! I never find anything like they do!

Total rust...except for those STAINLESS STEEL fenders! If those are original Elgin stainless fenders, I'd think they'd be worth a pretty penny. Gary

Even if the carrier wasn't original its definately period. And it looks like it fits the bike correctly so it may have been made for the bike by another vendor. I'm wondering which would be better? A chemical treatment or an oil bath to try to save whatever can be saved. The bike is definately beyond aluminum foil and WD...lol. Sandblasting would not seem wise as a first choice as it may blow through in some places and create holes in the frame. You definately want to probe for strength in the tubing with a metal probe before doing anything drastic to it.
But a nice find on that elgin.

The girls bannana seats bikes look like a good quick clean up by comparison and the value on them has been going up as of late it seems.

The bike looks worse in pics than it is. I've looked it over real good, its solid as a rock. I want to kep the patina, I can still see the pinstriping, not sure how to bring it back a little?

I might build the purple one for my girlfriend and flip the other to make all my money back

The seat post, chain adjusters, pedals, truss rods, fork, headbadge, wheels all came off no problem!

trying to find answers on this bike.

what are the fenders off of?

Is the light on the rack the original one thats supposed to be on the rear fender?
