Im about to the point where I need to be working on my Strato Flite to give my Western Flyer a friendly face.

Its without Rack., Seat, Seat post and front rack
Any pictures of these items., or info on what they may looks like would be wonderful.

I need to know for certain what the Size of the seat post in question would be, as the seat post from my '63ish Rollfast would not fit, but its CLOSE.
Heres a shot of the Project.,As per usual, Just getting it back to running condition, gonna leave the Barn Crust alone as much as possible until its built back up, then I might bring out its Stock Purple more.

Thanks All!
[sorry again for quality.. something really wrong with the phone lately..]

Here is a picture of a purple factory painted Murray Strato Flite. I beleive this was a 65 model. Different tank and chainguard as your project.

As for the seat post, I think all of the 60s Murray had the same outside diameter with the bulbous end and a smaller OD for the top. Don't have the measurements at the moment.

Also the version you have that has the "forward thrusted" tanklight and chrome chainguard could have sported a rear rack with the rear tailight that has the assy as a canister red dome.

Seat should be white with chrome belting along the edges. Most came with a crash rail

Purple Strato Flite with low end rear rack...no taillight. But has "Bugeye" dual Delta lights.

It's all about the Tanklights!!

Thanks, JD!
I was a little worried the rear rack might be another Top light rack, as one to match is gonna be tough to find., but fortunately I found a light substitute.
My pedals are the same as this model., and I think with some serious cleaning, my paint isnt far off either. Im almost Positive its purple under all the Rusty beauty.
I appreciate the correct information on the seat, though I think I'll have to settle for an all white, with a crash rail. one with silver trimming might be tough but not impossible to customize on!
If you happen by the seatpost measurements, Im always interested to know. Im rpetty sure its 13/16, but Im not ready to spend 20 bucks on a seat post without certainty., lastly.. do you think a Lucky 7 could be found to fit the bill in the right measurements? Id really like a little more customized Pizzaz with this bike.

Now here is a different retailers version labeled AMC VIII.
The same tanklight, correct seat, same chainguard style, but with the more deluxe rear rack with dome tailight and book rack.

Here are a few similar Murray models with the AMC....those are Astro Flites.
Some of the best middleweight riders I still own.
The AMC VIII was a recent addition.to the collection.
Bope.tbese pictures help you. Good luck with the project.

Excellent., Thanks again, bud!
Only thing left are seat post measurements.
;)
PS. shes a beauty to your collection., Good score!

Any correct fitting seatpost would work. I know I had an issue finding the factory ones when I needed them way back when.
I have seen cut round stock used so yes, a 7 should work if the right OD.
However most 7 posts are smaller in diameter I think.
And those cannister rear blinking tailights are like gold to those that have them.

If this is a Western Flyer version then it should be a Strato Flyer. The chainguard may indicate that.

Thats what I understand., most arent around anymore because they were simply Glued into place when new., I use a light I picked up at the Auto shop down the street., its a little more protruding, but it fits the bill nicely if I could find a means to power it :p

Should the post on my Western Flyer StratoFlyer be the same as the post on my Strato Flite? Its got a knob in the middle of the post, as interesting as that is., its not just strait tube.
I should buy some different sizes of PVC and see which diameter fits.

They should be the same diameter post. The knobs or bulbous end, acts as stop for the seat to rest on.
I had to cut off the knobs end so I can invert the post to fit larger seat posts of older bikes. I stop cutting them when I found it was hard to find ones with the knobs for my Murray tanklight projects.

Also to help identify the various Spaceliner styled tanklight bikes, they all pretty much used different styled switch knobs. Knurled vs bulbs with indentations or no indentations. And of course the style of the headlight bezel. Usually a decal afixed to the top of them. Like Murray or Western Flyer or Flying O or Foremost...etc.

FZ, here are some photos of the seat tube and post on my ladies spaceliner.

The .812 inch ID on the seat tube is equivalent to 13/16 inch.
The .799 inch OD on the post itself will allow for a slip fit. I believe the post is original to the bike.

Hope this helps.

Mkay., Im pretty sure its a 13/16 Given the comment that followed yours., Its a shame you cut so many of the knobbed posts! But we all do what we have to to make what we know were gonna love come finish. My Strato Flite is a Murray., My StratoFlyer is a Western Flyer. I envy any Otasco bikes of the space style.

It does! And for someone less frequent, or newer to posting I sure appreciate it! Good eye in aiding my needs., I believe given your knobbed post and the comments above yours., its an Original to your bike., knowing its both original and the equivalent of 13/16 makes me happy., Both because my StratoFlyer Boys has that same bulb-ended post, and because I now know the post diameter. Thanks for that!

I see the caliper photo and just getting home I have the same reading. 13/16 should be what is needed.
Also pictured is the correct seat.

It's the right OD on the seat post end but not small enough for the correct seat reciever of the Stratos.
If I have an extra I'll give it to you. You pay the shipping.
I'll try to look tomorrow. If you want.

That would be above awesome of you., Thank you. Saves me going post for post uncertain if Im buying parts for a build I dont have yet :p

Jordan,
This is one that was in my stem drawer. Not sure why it was in there. I need to make sure I didn't remove it from one of my keeper Murrays before I'll let this one go.
But this is what you need and it's in amazing shape.
Let me check my bikes to make sure it doesn't belong to one of them.
In some cases I have switched out the less padded Murray seats that were too large for the skinnier top of these stems. Just have to check. But if it's not earmarked for one of them, then you can have it.
