shifter compatability

I have never before worked with a 3 speed. Is it possible to use this Bendix shifter with a Shimano SG-3530 hub? I know I will have some cabling issues but was not sure how the hub shifts. Do I need a shifter with indents for each of the speeds?

Might be hard to use that shifter as it only has two positions for use on a two speed Bendix Multispeed hub. The cable probably wont be that hard to make. I've made my own cables before using brass tubing for the ends, and a little solder. Thinking you might need a shifter with indents or a friction type shifter like used on the older five speed derailers might be a better way to go?

Sort of what I was suspecting but since I have no real experience with 3 speeds I was hoping something might be able to be rigged.
