I'm building a bike to look like an old willy's gasser & I want to put a long rat fink style shifter coming up from the frame. It will not function but will just be for looks. Any ideas of what I can use & how to mount it?

find your self an old school bus manual transmission and remove the shifter. that should be long enough. after you get it we'll come up with a way to mounted!

i know this isn't a bike, but if you have access to a welder, you can pick up some solid steel rod (easily manipulated) and a threaded coupler (on one or both ends) all found @ Depot, or a hardware store....
hope you have better luck finding a shifter knob than I'm having :?

This is just my opinion rusty but your bike has a good looking paint job and that aluminum shifter doesn't look good with your bike. You should get something smaller like a shimano shifter and color match it with your bike or modify it a bit

I understand what you're saying but I'm going for the look of a big tall stick shift like they used to have in the 4 speed gassers.

check out jimmyflinstone.com he does resin cast shifters youll find a shifter knob there good luck i just saw a stone woods n cook gasser at the hunnert car pile up laast week yours is lookin good

If you want an easy mount for the frame this is what I did. It is a stem cut off using the bar clamp end as the frame clamp. the ball detent didn't work well so I made a lever-lock setup.

I like your idea. Why non-functional? Lots more fun to actually make it shift something....

7 speed internal in the back, and this works well enough that it has been in use for about 6 years.
The only drawback was the first shift knob (same as the one in the photo, but larger size) was heavy enouugh that it would downshift on its' own going over small bumps. Smaller knob and a counter spring made from an old spoke, no mo' problem!
Love it!

Personally I'd make it functional and make a small plate for the side of the tank like the old 1920's Harley suicide shifters.
Something reminiscent of this....
