Metal usually doesn't make noise on its own...Something must be rubbing or flexing...What is the rest of the story? Pics?

Without more info, I would say bolt it or weld it.

dyna mat works well for that but not cheep new. go to the bone yard look for crashed high end cars
it will be in the trunk should pull up fairly easy. cut it and super77 it where you want it.

i didn't tell you this if your ol lady asks but you may find some of the same stuff on the bottom of your kitchen sink

Every bicycle I have ridden with sheet metal body work, for some 45 years now, has a distinctive humming that emanates from vibration of the sheet metal during operation on paved surfaces. Obviously, malfunctions cause more noise, but that's not the issue. UCWT, have you actually done it on a bike? Are there any side effects?

if you use a bunch of it it's heavy. a few strips under the fenders, back of chain guard, under mounting points like a rubber washer. that in its self might help rubber coated washers between stuff. don't know what the cause is for the road noise. tire growl, bearings to tight/loose so shooting in the dark.

That makes more sense. I was thinking fenders, chainguard. If it is a tank kind of area, foam might do it for you. I think some newer cars have foam in the pillars to help reduce road noise. An automotive insulation might work around the wheel area. It comes in rolls and you stick it on with contact cement. It isn't very heavy. That's all I've got. Good luck.

Like I said, we're talking normal perfectly tuned bike, there will be some noise, even with a stripped frame bike, and the sheet metal just amplifies what ever noise level exists. I figure small amounts would go a long way, just like using smooth tires reduces it a bit. The only body work I currently use is quick change planet bikes on my 21-speed, a lot quieter than sheet metal. I was just curious if anyone else tried anything like that. 8)

the most irritating noise is the chain clanging on the guard for me the rest i live with

There's been a few posts about this subject, I did one on doing a tank someone else on fenders, just wish I did a more thorough coat the first time or a second coat worked really well considering really quieted everything down
