There's a winter storm in effect but I woke up this morning wanting to go for a ride. I always liked the way the city looks covered in snow and thought it would make for some cool pictures. I decided to take the Hotrod Silverking built by my good friend Onewheelsqueel (Kevin). So this will be a little tour of locations around the Chicago lakefront hope you's enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoyed the ride...

Millennium Park is a public park located in the loop community area of Chicago. It was originally intended to celebrate the millennium. It is a prominent civic center near the city's Lake Michigan shoreline that covers a 24.5 acre (99,000m) section of northwestern Grant Park. The area was previously occupied by parkland, Illinois Central rail yards, and parking lots...

Millennium Park ice skating is one of the more popular activities during winter in Chicago. More than 100,000 people lace up their skates each season and hit the ice in this picturesque environment. If you look very closely you can see the cleanup crew getting the rink ready after this heavy snowstorm.

Cloud Gate~ referred to by locals as "The Bean", for obvious reasons- is a public sculpture by talented British artist Anish Kapoor. Cloud Gate weighs in at over 110-Tons, and 66 feet long and 33 feet high. "The Bean" was created using a huge number of individual stainless steel plates. Cloud Gates seamless surface is the result of thousands of hours of polishing...

The sculpture has the appearance of a giant drop of liquid mercury, and the mirrored surface offers an amazing reflection of the city skyline, even more breathtaking on a bright, clear day...

Grant Park is a large urban park (319 acres or 1.29 km) located in Chicago's central business district. The parks area has been expanded several times through land reclamation, and was the focus of several disputes in the late 1800's and early 1900's over open space use. The park contains performance venues, gardens, artwork, sporting, and harbor facilities. It host public gatherings and several large annual events. One being "Lallapolooza" a three-day music festival and if course the "blues fest".

The park is often called "Chicago's front yard". Originally known as Lake Park, and dating from the city's founding, it was renamed in 1901 to honor Ulysses S. Grant. The parks most notable features are Millennium park, Buckingham fountain, the Art institute of Chicago (my favorite place) and the Museum Campus...

A little further down is the Alder Planetarium. The Adler is America's first planetarium. it was founded in 1930 by Chicago business leader, Max Adler. It opened to the public on May 12, 1930 and for it's design, architect Ernest A. Grunsfeld, Jr was awarded the gold medal if the Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects in 1931. It was declared a National Historic Landmark in 1987. The Adler's mission is to inspire exploration and understanding of the Universe.
I can't tell you how many times as a kid I've been to this building on school field trips but it is awesome inside and out. Definitely a must see...

Legend has it that one day the Gods ordered that animals be designated as signs of each year and the twelve that arrived first were selected...

If it wasn't for this winter storm we would be looking at the Chicago skyline with the Willis tower ( or as everyone else calls it "The Sears tower") in front of us. Lake Michigan is one of the five Great Lakes of North America and the only one located entirely within the United States.
Sports fishing includes salmon, whitefish, smelt, lake trout and walleye being major catches. In the late 1960s, successful stocking programs for Pacific salmon, led to the development of Lake Michigan’s charter fishing industry.

Well I hope you's enjoyed this little inside view of a winter storm in Chicago. This is a great city with lots of cool places to visit on bikes. The city is bike friendly and there is plans to expand the bike trail on the lake front to bypass traffic. The lake front trail from end to end is about 13 miles but you can catch conecting trails to take you into Indiana or Wisconsin... Or venture off into the city for some neighborhood sight seeing.

We have an awesome ratrodbikes community here in Chicago with lots of cool members. We get together once a month to ride and talk bikes. If anyone is ever planing a trip to the city and would like to ride with us we would be glad to schedule a ride for you to hang out and enjoy this city the right way~ on a bike... Better yet on a vintage bike... ~Chicago Tail Draggers

Some really great pics! I agree, some of these would be great calander shots!

So... Which one of these awesome pics will you be offering up for the 2016 calendar?

Luke.
The one with me in it of course... [emoji13]JK
Although the pictures are nice to me they are all missing something. When I got the bike from Onewheelsqueel it had the aluminum chainguard on it. Last year on a trip to Ann Arbor we stop for a ride in the sand dunes and my "Wife" jammed the crank, her pants leg and who knows what else into the chain guard [emoji17] & bent it. But Kevin came over one day & seen it laying in my basement & like a good friend (or maybe just seen it as a piece of his art being destroyed) took it home with him & is attempting to straighten it. [emoji4] that's why the pictures to me are eh... Lol...
