I just saw that, and was pondering what I would do with it.

If that is in fact a Raleigh bike (and not the Flying Pigeon), the bike alone is worth more than that. Probably $400 or more for the whole thing would be in line, more with the right buyer. It would partly depend on what kind of shape it was all in, bearings, corrosion, that kind of stuff. Usually, the modern high-end pedicabs go for $1800+, the old single-speed Asian ones for $600 or so.

On the one hand, I'd like to get a pedicab, and do have room for it. On the other hand, I have absolutely no use for it- don't plan to go into business, and don't have anyone I need to pedal around. So yeah, it's tempting, but I'd best not get involved.

There's a lady on bikeforums that has one, seems like. That is, the bike with side-car type rickshaw.

This one came up a few months ago ,but it was even bigger to try and store. It was in really good shape though. I think they wanted $175 or something for it

Sure seems cheap for either of those. Would love to have one but like everyone else, storage is the issue.

They have had some new ones on Ebay for $300 or so. I understand you have to assemble EVERYTHING (I assume this includes wheels). I think that second one is one the Ebay ones. The weird thing about them is the seat is a 1-seater, whereas on most pedicabs, they're good for at least two people.

As best I can tell, nobody uses the old foreign single-speed pedicabs for hire- it's just people like you or me that think it's cool. I think the cheap Ebay ones (also single speed, btw) go to a similar market. The ones that are presumably good enough to run day in and day out are all then $1,500-$4,000 or so.

If I had kids that I wanted to pedal around or something, I'd try to get one. But it's sort of the bicycle equivalent of owning your own school bus. If I didn't already have a cargo tricycle, I could use it for that.

Here's another one, in Austin- no telling what they want. There was one for sale in Wimberly a while back, of this style, and I think it was at $600. Austin/ Wimberly are bad places for single speed pedicabs!

Meanwhile, there's a Phillips rod-brake bike up here in Dallas area for $300, a couple of heavy-duty Schwinns in Houston for $60...decisions, decisions. I'll be down in Houston in a week and a half, bet there's nothing interesting on Craigslist by then.

Aww, c'mon people! I have 13 bikes and 1 trike in a one bedroom downtown loft. Granted, 5 of the bikes are disassembled, but still....

Then again, I don't have a wife. That probably makes things much easier. Much, much, much easier.

Nevermind............

But what I would advise Uncle Stretch or anyone else is that if you can get something in good shape and as original as a pedicab for $100, and you don't live on the 3rd floor of an apartment building, go for it. You could have some fun with it and end up meeting some interesting people or have some great conversations with it. And if it doesn't work out, you should be able to flip it for a small profit since the buying price was so low.

Also, if stored vertically a trike doesn't take up any more space than a Lazy Boy chair. And it doesn't need any type of hook or pegs to store it that way either. Because of the big tool box on the back of my trike, when I store it I pull the front up like if I was popping a wheelie, but pull it up until the front wheel is pointing straight up. The tool box acts like the third leg of a tripod, with the two wheels acting as the other tripod legs. The trike only takes up about a 2.5' X 3' of floor space. It looks like you could do the same with either of those rickshaws.

I got the trike to try out as a winter commuter. I figured it was that or buy studded tires, and I could buy the trike cheaper. A pedicab might work as a winter commuter too. Unexpectedly hitting the ice on 3 wheels should be a little less traumatic that on 2 (not that ice is easy in when on wheels of any type).

The wife dosent take up that much space ,but I have 17 bikes and about 10 frames a motorcycle , a zero turn mower and three generators. Its so crouded here that you have to leave my property to change your mind. I'm still in the process of rebulding my house after the storm . I find it very hard to work when no matter where you turn there are bicycles, wheels and parts to work around. I was on the verge of throwing away my bike hobby till I got my house redone. Im getting better at balancing a board on a bike while I skillsaw it. Oh and I dont have room to put a lazy boy chair either. Seems like there is always that one more good deal ...thats why we get like this. HOARDERS
