Springer fork chop

Been looking around and can't find any info...chopping sringer fork springs. I have a newer (chinese) Schwinn with a springer fork and want to chop a few coils off the spring to lower it a tad. Any advice? I've got access to a band saw at work so cutting it wouldn't be the issue...

I use a cut off wheel. Usually one coil on each end is what I do. If you cut more than that, it wont fit in the front holder. You might have to get a shorter bolt too. Dean

Can you just adjust the bolt to make it lower. Be careful thou those things are weak

put a shorter bolt in, thats what i did. or fab a longer crown both would lower the front end easily

I plan on cutting the bolt as well. Hope there's enough threads on it.

without, i pushed down on the fork to compress it while my dad screwed it in. i used a grade 8 for strength cuz i bent the stock one.
