Just doing a little 'research' here.....

I'm in the planning/design phase of a bike for my wife. In conversation, I know she wants a front basket (probably a nice sized wicker one  ), but for riding comfort and, let's be honest, cool factor, I'd like to run a springer fork.

So, what springer will work with a basket? The only one I can think of is a Murray 24" rat trap.

If that's my only fork option, does anyone know of a basket that would work with a Schwinn/Monark style or Monark/Felt Abraham Linkage style fork or an adapter?

Any input will be appreciated!

Cheers,
Dr. T

Maybe an Electra Quick release basket. It would space it out from the fork. I would imagine work on a Monark or CWC Shockmaster but not sure about a Schwinn.

That's an idea too. I think to satisfy the 'customer', this bike will be as factory bolt-on as possible, little to no rat rod. That doesn't mean it will be a purist build by any means, just nothing fabricated or 'altered' to fit, just repainted, cleaned, polished or newly purchased. Basically, I want it to just work, so she can enjoy it and I don't to 'hear it'.

Now, back on subject, do I need to start shopping for a 24" rat trap fork, or what?

Use the upper handlebar brackets, then make a lower bracket that goes into the headset stack (like a reflector bracket), do some creative extending to support the bottom of the basket..

My wife's got a basket on her springer Monark, no problems at all. It's a Petersboro bicycle basket.

Thanks for all the input guys. Good to know that a Monark springer is an option, as is the Wald option that works on a Schwinn-style fork.

Knowing this frees me up to go a few different design directions.

Y'all rock!

Cheers,
