It's been my understanding that a single speed chain is wider than a multi-speed chain. So a sprocket from a single speed won't work for a 5-speed set up. But then I look at the sprocket I got from my single speed AMF Renegade, and it looks the same as the one on an AMF Aerobee. Could mine work?

It's not unheard of for a 3/32" sprocket to be found on a coaster bike. Wrap the chain around and see if it seats. :|

1/2" pitch chain drive sprockets come in 3/32" (der. mutli), 1/8" (coaster), and 3/16" (off-road/bmx/industrial) and nowadays a couple other sizes for modern super-multi der. hubs. 3/16" is not something you run across mutch. Manufacturers have been known to use the same 3/32" drive sprockets on coaster applications as geared bikes. I've even seen some cheap thin coaster hub sprockets that need major dimpling just to engage the snap ring , that might handle 3/32". :? Some people have gotten 1/8" to work with chain derailleurs by eliminating the master link, seems kinda iffy to me though. :|

I never use a master link. Never have, never will. So maybe it can work. I'm going to measure the width and see, but I guess experimentation will actually give me the answer.
