I am major hacked off.....I bought a SA hub from a member. Took months to finally get it laced up. Took it for a ride, and have major problems. Found all the cone nuts loose, which has me believing it had been taken apart. The problem is the brake shoes are shot, along with the shifter cable. Its a TCW. I have a tight AW in stock. Tight, as in the cones havent been messed with. Can I put the guts from the AW into the TCW housing, or am I gonna have to unlace this POS tcw and lace in the AW? I know theres no warranty when we buy from others on here, but I realize that I was screwed, and he KNOWS it. I need a SA 3 speed shifter assembly. Help?
I wont use his handle, but I hope he does contact me.......I believe I paid 45 dollars for it, shipped.....We'll see if he is a good man or not......

Al, I have some SA cables if you find you need one. I hope you have better luck with the offending member have a conscience than I have. I have been screwed twice in the past few months on this site and I am close to quitting for a second time.

LOL, yea, im a bit torked.... Doing some info searching, I see the TCW's are known for bad brakes. They basically say to replace the whole hub. So, I guess Ill just relace on the AW.
I definately need a shifter. Hoping to get one with a full outer sheath, the whole length. What do ya want for one?

feedack,to be fair, is left upon receipt of the item. It looked good, came fast, and packed well. I left positive feedback. That was back in January. To be fair, ya cant go back on that. Just wanted him to say he was sorry, or didnt know it was junk......
Rant over....Im gonna buy a univeral cable from Sheldon Brown, relace on the AW, and hope ITS a good one. Ill send the TCW to anyone who needs parts.... And Ill beware next time I see an ad from him.....Buyer Beware.I guess.....
On a good note, I had a faulty hub I bought from indchuckz, and he sent me a replacement ASAP. I swear the replacement was NEW, not used. HE is what makes this sight great! Im sure the majority are great, just a bad apple in the bunch shows up every once in awhile.....

UPDATE: The seller contacted me, and has offered a refund. He bought the unit used, knew it shifted, and sold it. Good guy! I declined full refund, I'd be happy with half. Thanks to this great forum!

I've actually never come across TCW that worked well. Not one of Sturmey Archer's grander moments... At least the seller was willing to give you a refund for it. Not particularly impressed by the S3C either the brake worked at least, but the one I had would never stay in adjustment and was super finicky compared to the normal AW.

I actually commonly find SA hubs with loose cones for some reason too... must be the SA cone gnomes.

I'd venture to say that loose cones on surviving adult bikes comes mostly from years of casual use by people who, knowing nothing about bike maintenance, never did any. 3-spds have been seen mostly as amateur recreational stuff during my lifetime, with utilitarian bikes tending to be ('till the late '80s anyway)10-spds or coaster brake singles. :| In my experience the free-wheel SWs always work better than the coaster brake models.
