I,ve seen a lot of new things these past few days since I found this site.I'm wondering though, has anyone built a bike in the style of a speedway motorcycle? You know, the wild short wheelbase , big single cylinder,no brake machines that run sideways , even in the straightaways. I guess it might not be very practical , but practicality is evidentally not a concern in some builds I see.Just wondering. :?:

That would look cool. Sort of like a board tracker but with a straight tube frame, a straight line from the head tube to the rear dropout. Big dirt bike bars, and a springer front end. I think you just created a new genre.

thats called a flat tracker. used to run a 250 bultaco build like that on a 1/4 flat round track. very kool.

The skidman is rite.

AND not only is that a speedway bike, but it appears to B an Uprite Westlake ... No ?? Speedway bikes proably weigh half of what a Flat Track or TT motorcycle do with more power to the rear wheel .

Hey Mr. Styles, Were do you live ?? Calif., N.Y or europe ??

We use to catch the races every Friday up in Auburn.

We have even witnessed those WILD KIWI dudes on side hack's ... going the opposite direction on the race track LOL.

When we first started attending the races , if ya fell down ya better hold on.... UNLESS you were directly in the path of oncoming traffic , pretty much rite on the Blue Grove, They wouldn't throw a yellow , instead race rite by ya as you lay there on the ground ... Pretty ruggid.

It's tamed down since then, yellows are common on spills, the worst ya might see is another rider being used for traction occaiosanly.

500 cc of single cylinder Fly weight bikes on methanol, with NO Brakes, on an small oval track the size of a large Rodeo arena , & everyone want's to win .... WAHOOOOO yano . WFO Racing at it's best.

Let me put it to you this way LOL ... Even my wife would get exicted about going to the Speedway Races . She even had her own favorites....."The Cowboy " Johnny Cook & " The Wild Child " Glenn Hutchison.

If you could pull off a Speedway look alike Bike ... That would be pretty cool .

Ahh Speedway, brings back memories of the National Orange Showgrounds, San Berdoo in the early 80s Bruce Penhall was international champ back then, even in the back row of the stadium you still got dirt in your beer. The side-hack racers were the real nuts.

I live in western North Carolina. I've never seen speedway racing except on TV.I don't know of anywhere in this part of the country that speedway races are held.Moto-cross and cross-country races are about the only motorcycle races around here. I would also pay to see observed trials competition if any were held in this area.I don't know that I want to build a speedway style bicycle at present . I have several old cruiser style bikes I want to re-do first.Maybe if I get a bike or two that I don't mind cutting up I will try one later. 8)
