A bit of a hold up. I was unwrapping the chromed parts and I found this discoloration on the adjustable cup for the headset. There’s also a small spot on the headset washer. So they’re going to need to be fixed, and hopefully it’ll happen fast.

I had to wrestle with the shifter an awful lot. Small fitment and mechanical issues due to the chrome and design.

I was never able to understand the type of cable end that was supposed to fit into the weird design. I tried a few modern shift cable ends, but they weren’t working. So I took a page from Schwinn stick shifters. I used a brake cable and modified the barrel end by grinding it to fit.

So I set up the cable and housing.

Sometimes when you’re looking at certain details with such focus, that you can overlook other things that should have been obvious. When designing the routing for the rear brake cable I forgot to account for the kickstand. I really boneheaded miss. So I looked at routing the cable through the middle. A decent compromise, but it was going rub against the spring and I didn’t want it to get caught and frayed. So I decided to add a little guide but expoxying a small metal spacer inside the kickstand body. I’ll give it a day or two to cure, then finish setting up the brake.

That probably used the older Huret/Simplex cable end that was disk-shaped. I just worked on a Peugeot that was so equipped.

Had one. Tried it. Kept slipping out. Maybe I installed it wrong. Regardless, it’s the weirdest design I’ve encountered in my experience. It shouldn’t be as complicated as it is.

I replaced the sissy mounting bolts with these 1/4x1/2”, but I hate the way they look because they just don’t match the feel of original bolts.

So I smoothed the ends, took off the stamps, and polished them.

This mounting plate for the kickstand was bothering me. This is brand new! Terrible.

It’s shinier than it looks in the picture. Anyway…

Here’s the kickstand mounted with the cable routed through the guide inside.
