this has probably been brought up several times around here and i doubt there is any simple answer for it, but how do you define a rat rod? id think something that could been custom built/designed, customized aftermarketly or perhaps some beastly cruiser rediscovered one day in the perverbial "old barn" or "grandpa's basement", especially if it was vintage heavy american steel and had that low slung look to it. but i was woundering, what traits are anti ratty or are not used. how would you define it?

don't get me wrong, i love seeing all types of bikes around here if their concidered rat or not. for me, its when a bike becomes more than just a bike and becomes an artistic extension of oneself.

^^^^ Did that constitute the First Warning?

Nah...that mainly pertains to cussin', naked chicks and generally being a jerk around here...ha ha.

personally, i think a rat rod is more of a mental thing, not exactly a physical thing. ive seen some great cars, bikes, motorcycles, titled as rat rods, but they're covered in metalflake, chrome, and pinstriping. on the other hand, ive seen the scariest, rustiest, vehicles called rat rods too. so if you want it be a rat rod, it can be. a rat rod bike isnt exactly a bike with flat black paint, red wheels, apehangers, and whitewalls. im actually not a huge fan of that combo. it looks good on some bikes, but most times its done too much. rat rodding can be whatever you may come up with. i dont mean to preach, im just stating my opinion. building something on your own shows who you are on the inside. mostimes.
i believe: Kustomization is an art, not an institution.
