the plan clean these used 20 X 1 3/8 36 hole skinny race rims lace them to sealed 36 hole fix gear hubs. put them on a cool 20" bike frame. to basically build a 20" high speed single speed track bike. time to get low and fast. . frame will be painted Blue by me. hens Blue Blur!
I dug out the candidate. I painted this Dimond Back way back in High School. now for the dilemma. do I go full on Shimano 600 gears, lace up the 36 hole 105 hubs to the hoops. IE 6 / 7 speed 80's style road track bike. or lace up my 36 hole fix gear hubs go single speed leg burning demon?
Sweet. Disk covers for 20" rims are easy to find too. Are you planning on riding it often? Go with the derailleur. You can burn in one gear on it if you want, but come to the ride home or a decent hill and you'll want gears. Can't shift what you ain't got.
I vote for gears also, but only in the rear. I'd lose the front derailleur and one chainring, the smaller of the two. Bull bars also to lessen weight. "Excess weight on the drag strip".

ya I dropped the old 105 Shimano of at bike shop. so they can build them up. that way I can work on other stuff. I love the simple fix gear hubs. but this bike is screaming for gears. so got lots more shopping to do now. need rear 6 speed cog/gears, seat post, seat and other stuff . I don't seam to have.
@ifitsfreeitsforme Ian, you took the words right out of my mouth! Also, didn't know you had that road racing heritage in your background. Any photos from BITD? Stories, oh, there must be stories?!
side note/question any one have some used or new Shimano 600 shifters. I need a set like these for this build. I have cash or bike parts to trade for a set.
clipless do scream high speed performance. but limit the foot wear I can use. IE only work well with clipless shoes. I do have a set of the shoes but there worn out and yellow color. LOL ever hop on a road bike with speed play pedals and vans shoes. your feet don't stay on LOL that well. so would need to buy new clipless shoes and only wear them when riding. that would work. but then I would neeeeeed a funky aerodynamic type goofy looking helmet. to real sell the look and dust off my licra/ spandex cycle gear . now days that's not a good look on me.
I do have a set of toe strap pedals off a older Pinerello road bike. I let go to new home. but getting in them always took work.
