While re-assembling my build off bike I remembered that the grease had a grayish color when I pulled the bearings out. Turns out that the left bearing cone is shot. The one on the left is the cone in question from the Jenna Saykwa and the one on the right was pulled out from a very well used 40 year old CCM. To those of you with recent rides, especially the Chinese made, keep an eye out for that. That cone had only seen 2 seasons in it's life.

I emailed the picture to the manufacturer letting them know that the bike only saw 2 real seasons of riding. I'll let you know if I hear back from them.

it is amazing that i can almost always reuse a 50+ year old headset or bb but not a 5 year old one! i especially like the painted cones and cups on the new chinese stuff.....

Wow Gerry, I'm impressed. I didn't know you could speak Chinese! It was the same deal on those pedals that guy was selling on here a while back. Someone needs to teach the Chicoms about heat treating. Actually it's probably the steel, not the heat treating. You have to have decent steel to get a good hard heat treat and then draw back the temper. Trying to heat treat pot metal doesn't work to well. Gary

The CCM stuff from the 30`s and 40`s is amazing. Such good steel and nice chrome. But those bikes sold for $40+ bucks back then...that`s around $500.00 in 2010 dollars!

It's definitely the steel. Just look how wide the race is on the "new" part compared to the CCM. That's pretty soft steel in my book. Still haven't received a reply from Firmstrong.
