This is how desperate I am for old bikes.

I forget what the ad said on CL, but it had 1 bad photo of this bike (the pictures here are mine, but not far off). It was something to the effect of "Old Columbia" and said "as seen" not included, rear wheel/crank. I watched the price go from $40 to $30 to $20 and I bit. All I wanted were the truss rods, $20 seemed a little steep, but stuff like this NEVER pops up around here, and it really wasn't around here, it was in Richmond about 85 miles away, I had my dad pick it up for me.

Dad picked it up a few weeks back and I just got to their house (an hour away) and got it today. I thought "This looks small" and sure enough, it's a 24". The headbadge is gone, but it doesn't leave the Columbia headbadge shape that I'm use to. If I wanna use these truss rods on a 26" bike (I don't build 24" bikes) then I'm going to have to extend/destroy them.

Oh well, who knows when the next old bike will show up, seems like about 1 a year.

Cool looking stem, maybe Terry66 wants this one?

Any idea if it's a Columbia or something else? Look at that last photo where the top tube joins the headtube, smooth, who does that besides Schwinn?

I don't think it would take much tweaking to make the truss rods work on a boys 26" bike. Girls head tubes are usually longer than boys and there would only be about an inch of diference between the 24 and a 26 anyway.

Yeah I agree. I think they would look better anyway with a little less arch to them.

Bummer about the 24" frame. But, at least you got some ratty handlebars and a 24" hoop out of it. Lace it to a coaster brake and throw on a fat frank.

The gap from the bottom of the fender to the top of the wheel looks awful far. Have you tried a 26 wheel on it? almost looks like it might fit

Yo yooth!

I've got a set of 26" just like those and need a set of 24" for my wife's bike. I would rather not cut mine short, why don't we trade?

PM me dude!

Cheers,

That seat should be worth more than $20. Good score.

The seat? Really? It's pretty bad. It's also small, were women's saddles small? I am building an old cruiser for my son and think this saddle might be to scale on his 20" bike.

Maybe?
