So, I just dragged this home today. Found on craigslist - got it for $35.
Seems to be an early post-war Schwinn, but new enough not to have a skip-tooth chain. Looks to be all there, save for the original tires, saddle & the headbadge. Someone painted just about everything flat black, but it was red once. The fenders are a mess and the rear rim is rusted through around the valve stem. Oh, and the rear hub has a lot of side-to-side play. But it was definately cheap! Close up of the drivetrain side:
The serial number is H29488, under the bottom bracket shell. I take that to mean it's pre-'53. My '53 Phantom has the serial on the left drop out. Anyway, I don't know what I'll do with it yet. Maybe I should start planning for next year's build off... :mrgreen:
