Stripped it down and did a hap hazard mock-up. So I could get a feel for it. Tires, handlebars, sprocket and pedals will for sure be replaced. I haven't 100% decided on the color. I added a couple temporary thin plastic inserts on the rear wheel. If I decide to continue with that wheel I'll make the inserts out of 2ml vinyl color matched to the paint. And polish the aluminum. But I've got 3 sets of Wheels to mix and match before I finalize that. Today will be spent searching for a saddle, fender/s and tires. I'll be setting this up several different ways before this is over. Most likely end up with a couple bikes built from the spare parts.

That changed directions pretty quickly. Mag inserts are a cool touch. Perhaps a matching panel "tank" would be cool, but it could also be easy to go too far with it. I like how you've left spaces between on the wheel. Interested observer.

Yeah, I've already decided not to do a couple things I had been thinking about before I did the mock-up. I am thinking about the panel "tank". I put a couple actual tanks on it but decided they don't really fit the "muscle bike" era. But may hang these Indian motorcycle tank inserts there, they fill that spot nicely and it won't take much adjustments to get them to fit. And I'm half Native American. Lol. I only have one panel on the desk, the other is buried in my parts shed.

That's a good point. Muscle era isn't really my specialty, I still don't completely understand them. I will be continuing my education as we all progress.

Mocked up a shifter. I have no idea what the body used to be, I pulled it out of a friends scrap pile a couple years ago. The handle which needs to be shorten some is one side of some bent 70's 26" forks. And a vintage 8ball shift knob. Haven't decided if it's going to be for a 3 speed or a 5 speed shifter yet. Or if I will even end up using it. Had been thinking about doing it for awhile and this is the perfect excuse.

I was a bit concerned with what I was going to do about brakes if I used a freewheel hub and the chopper forks. I think I may have found something for the front anyway. Vintage drum brake wheels are out of my price range. I had been looking at vintage Honda trail style drum brake hubs because they have several that are 36h but they are way wider then I wanted. I came across this 12.5 inch X 3" tire on a 8.5 inch electric scooter rim with an Artek 80mm band & drum brake. I don't want to use the tiny wheel and tire. Looked up on the Bay how much a band brake kit is. $12-$20 depending on the size drum I want. So I'm now going to buy a couple kits. A small size for the front and larger for the rear. Worst case, I find a 20h 16"-20" rim to lace this hub into for the front.

Has anyone had any luck using these on a bicycle?

Anyway hopefully I can make it work.

For sure figured out what I want to do with the front brake. I picked this up off ebay and it's for a rear wheel originally, but I'm going to put the disc on a single rear hub in place of the cassette and put it on the front of the bike. I'll have to modify how it bolts/attaches to the fork so it lines up correctly and stays put, but I think it's doable. And it's a 1976 piece of tech, so it's in the same era I'm shooting for with this.

I've used them a lot. They don't provide any braking rolling backwards. Use the larger size, 90mm is what I get now to get the most braking action. They don't have the best stopping power. Alone, one isn't enough brake for safe stopping.

I have this coming in the mail Monday or Tuesday. Not 100% sure it will work out on this build or not. This bike will be for my grandson when he's old enough to ride it. He's only 4 right now and his whole world is Hot Wheels and dinosaurs. If I can blend it in with my other ever changing ideas for this bike, I will. Wanted one of these or the Hot Rodder motors when I was a kid.
