My wal mart doesn't carry half the cool stuff you guys have. I saw one ladies cranbrook and the rest is mountain bikes and kids mountain bikes.

If you buy it online you can use the "site to store" shipping and pick it up in the store. My Walmart is the same way, mostly kids bikes, few fixies, and mountain bikes. Occasionally a cranbrook or similar.

It almost feels like they simply can not keep interesting/popular models in stock at the stores at all.

To me it seems like they tend to stock all the stuff people don't want.I rarely ever buy "New" bikes though. Normally I like getting vintage bikes and restoring them to rideable condition.

clicked on the schwinnn link to find LBS's that supposedly carry these items. Asked about the Phantom grips and they acted like I was speaking in a foreign language. Non of the LBS's in my area carry any cruiser parts. Don't mean to sound too negative ,but if you aren't Lance Armstrong or ride down mountains around here than you don't matter to these people. That is why I want to put together the rattiest bike I can and ride "their" Swamp Rabbit Trail. Just trying to keep it classy!

Same here, My LBS is owned by a stuck up fixie / mountain bike snob. But our Schwinn dealer on the other side of town is still into nostalgic stuff and loves seeing repeat customers and bikes from years gone by. He is awesome to talk bikes with and really goes the extra mile to make customers feel welcome no matter what they ride.
