If you go back in time, you would only have the technology that was available at that time. No cell phone towers in 1928. It's probably a hearing aid, they had them, and they where the size of a modern cell phone. She could have been holding a rag to her ear, maybe it hurt. Let's say just for arguments sake that time travel is real, would one have to believe or even assume that if we have the technology to send some one back in time that we would also be able to equip them with some kind of communicatuon device?
Also, if the old womens holding something to her ear why is she talking because no ones around her? Crazy? Maybe. But wouldn't it be cool if the government has actually gotten caught with their pants down for once?

My theory:
Ever since the Philadelphia experiment, The government have been opening holes in the space time continuum. And since living tissue could not traverse the voyage, a cellphone was sent with specific instructions to how to use it...and more importantly when to turn it on. Why? ...When the fabric of time is open, the signal will be available due to the cellphone towers in place all over the world in our present time. Information from our present will not be given to the past in order to prevent someone important from being born or vice versa...but information from the past will be received in order to financially exploit or blackmail the people or governments of the present by digging up long forgotten or buried info on them. :shock: Later to find out that all the Prophets from Nostradamus to Edgar Cayce had a cellphone...not just any cellphone but one that is biodegradable and has a self destruction failsafe. :shock:
