So as I get closer to putting my Lovell/Iver Johnson together, I needed tires. Converted to 700C rims so I had lots of choices. Amazon is selling Electra Amsterdam tires in black for $23 so I bought a pair. Got them today and I am NOT happy. They are Cheng Shin tires (marked Cheng Shin) with a small Electra tag wrapped around them. That piece of paper is the only thing that says Electra. Went back to Amazon and sure enough, they sell the same tire, minus the 3" piece of paper for $9. I had bought Electra tires before but this is the last time. I expected a decent quality tire for my money, not some P.O.S.

Next up, Schwalbe? Specialized?

actually the cheng shin's that came on my amsterdam have been awesome. Have somewhere around 2000 miles on them actually and they're barely worn.

Growing up, I had a couple oldies with cheng shinn whitewalls on them and never had any probs with them. They were good stuff and I imagine they still are. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather have some good old made in America stuff but c.s. Is cool.
Ps that does suck being charged extra for the Electra packaging, try sending em back.

Cheng Shin makes some shop quality tires, but to pay 23 bucks for the 9 dollar kind and a piece of paper blows wind.

If you bought the tires through the link you posted, you can send them back to Amazon. They will refund you your money, pay for the shipping both ways and email you a return shipping label. You can’t loose on merchandise that ships form an Amazon warehouse.

I order stuff form them all the time and if it is not to my liking upon arrival, back it goes. I’m out nothing.

Sucks that you paid more for the same, but the Cheng Shin tires are nice quality tires, might want to research where the other tires are made if it matters that much because I think you'd be surprised about where they all come from. :|
