I found my Elgin is rockin' a mismatched pair of 26x1.375's and after looking on Ebay I see why.
Are there any sizes I can get away with using instead, given the age of the size?
Do any of you have a workable Set? I dont need anything new,. just something I can ride on.

Sure appreciate any feedback, fellas!

[Also, I started a new page in Show Me Your.. called "Department Store Bikes" ;) ]

26x1.375 is a Schwinnn S6 tire. Are you sure about your size? Is it 1.375" or 1 3/8"? Fractions and decimals are not the same in bike tires.

Start by telling us EVERYTHING that's printed on your tires' sidewalls. The fractions are different than the decimal stuff, as CMAN pointed out, and in the case of 26 x 1 3/8", there are two different sizes of fractional tires (a 26x1.37" would be a 559mm at the bead, whereas a 26x1 3/8" would be a 597mm if it's a Schwinn s5 or s6, and 590mm if it's a EA3/650a).... So, yeah, know what to order, before you buy....

The front tire is MUCH too gone to tell, but the rear clearly states 26x1.375, Checked it again this morning talking it over with Steven Hickey. [at a loss for his username atm]

I had mized it up with 26x 1 3/8th initially, thus the double check this mornin. I hear decimals make a lot of difference. I was told a 660cc or 700cc might be a proper tradeoff., all in all I did a look on Evilbay and they SELL the 26x1.375's but its coming from here..

and though the price seems reasonable., is it legit? it looks a bit vague in the writeup.

Speaking Japanese already ;)

Let me get all the lettering/numbers off
They are as follows :

26x1.375 Inflate to 50 Lbs UNIROYAL TOURING

1.0-F? C5 1 [in an oval] Fits American Hooked Edge Rims

26x1.25 and 26x1.375

Made In USA [with a little US in a shield symbol]

[end of tire numbers/letters]

I popped it open and found it a little hard to follow.,
I get numbers all tossed up and have a hard time discerning what they mean in such abundance.

I was sort of hoping for that stretch 26x1 3/8 comment to come as you said it,. sometimes I need things just a little black and white.
No offense to BM.

If your replacement tires aren't the originals anyway, can't you just toss on any set of 26x1 3/8? It's not like they won't fit.
I'm not above taking a sander to tires and removing lettering or other details that look wrong.

Ha, wow,,,,In all my years, i've never seen an actual set of 599 tires. I'd be inclined to try to stretch some s6 rubber over the rims, like cman mentioned...

EA3/590s won't fit, but the 2mm stretch between s6 tires and these super uncommon 599s should work.... maybe some bloody knuckles for FZ, but he'll get'm on. Dish soap will help'm slide on...

This makes me wonder about an old set of wheels I have. I could not get quick bricks to stay "round" on them. I have the tires that came on them, I'll have to check the size again.

I plan to find Mustard yellow, but Im not at all picky with style if I can find a set that work, used or otherwise. Im fortunate in that
[1 3/8ths] come in a variety of styles and sizes, it makes this rider a LOT easier, and I get to keep my original wheelset for a change ;)

599cc ? e.e

so you agree 1 3/8th will stretch over realistically?
Im okay bashing up my hands for a bike I'll be able to ride ;)
Note to self: Dishsoap

1 3/8(590mm) and 1 3/8(597mm) are not the same! I would only buy a tire that list what the ISO diameter is (590,597,599)

599 mm 26 x 1.25, x 1.375- Your Wheel/tire

597 mm 26 x 1 1/4, 26 x 1 3/8 (S-6) THE TIRE that may work

590 mm 26 x 1 3/8 (E.A.3), 650 A Will NOT work!!!

I would encourage you to read that Sheldon Brown article. Don't worry about remembering all the numbers. Read it, understand there are minor differences and use it as a reference for the numbers later.
