So one of my local bike shops is selling a 60's Schwinn Corvette red mens bicycle for $175. I have been thinking about buying it but I am still new to bicycles. Is this a good deal? It has all original parts and paint, the only new things they replaced are the tire tubing and seat (with a mtn bike seat. lol).

Probably worth about 100...offer them that

No pictures unfortunatly. It looked like original parts. The people there do not know much about it, the owner took it there to have new tires put on it and he left it and did not pay. So they are selling it to get back what they put into it.
It looked like pretty good condition, besides it needing a vintage seat it just had some paint chips but all the labels, writing, chain and tire guards were all there.

Also, I just found this ad on CL, what is peoples opinions are on this? (hopefully the link works. lol)

Old bikes are worth what they are worth to you. If you have a need for an old girls bike, then its a good one. If you want to get rich off of it , even parted out it would bring about what you have in it maybe a little more. Still a bunch of work taking it apart and shipping everything. This is my 2 cents

the corvette; $100.00 would be a good offer.
on the chics bike; dig-it,that would be a good one.
try to get it cheaper,as everyone likes to do.

If you like it, get it. A comparable new bike would cost much more, and this bike is also ready to ride with new tires. A 60's Corvette would have S-7 wheels, which would require 26 x 1 3/4" tires. If they are 26 x 1.75" tires, maybe they put new wheels on it also. Or is it a single red band rear hub or even a 2 speed (3 yellow or redbands on hub)?

I would show $100 cash in hand and see if they'll take it. If it'ds been sitting there for awhile, they just might, or start at $80 and go up to a hundred.

I just looked at that coppertone bike. Awesome! I'll bet those fenders have good chrome under that white paint. That looks like a good deal.

If I manage to get this bike how would I go about removing the white paint off of the fenders?

Copper wool and WD-40 has worked great for me to remove paint and rust from chrome fenders. Just take your time and don't press really hard as not to scratch the chrome.

So the guy with the Schwinn Amercian just texted me that he sold it today. :(

As for the link I posted before that one, the one about the (supposed) 1930's Zenith womans bike. What is the opnions on that? I have been considering emailing an offer but I know nothing about Zenith bikes. Is that even it's orignal color? It does not look original to me. lol

So are you looking for a bike that will be collectible or something to work on/ride?
Kinda both. I want to fix something up but I physically have a tough time doing it. So maybe something that needs minor work.
I also like the ones that look brand new even if they are vintage. :)
