Got these this week from an antique dealer I know.

Traded him a table and some goodies for them, figure I have about 125.00 into the pair.

Think I overpaid a lil given the conditions, but maybe not.....

Raleigh Sprite 27 . he had cleaned it and waxed it, real clean paint, nice chrome. 10 speed. Has an interesting 'Rampar' front generator light and a Huret speedometer. Other thing I thought was unusual is the Sturmey Archer rims. those I'd never seen before. hope to resell it as it's to tall for me to ride.

Second is a Columbia Thunderbolt. he says it was a 62, I've not cleaned it up and run the numbers yet. seems complete and original, chrome rusty. tires shot, but should be an easy one to rework, I am going to try polishing the original paint before any repainting. we'll see.

Good info - THANKS :)

I'm at a loss though - serial # is K031698

that shows either 1946 or 1961 .. I am assuming 61, because the # is on the rear drop-out, not the bottom bracket.
However, it has the head badge as shown '1947-1960', so likely they were using up leftover 1960 badges on the 61s ?

Will be poking around that site, learning more  .. new but learning quick. ( like , still not certain the years the serial numbers changed places, did that vary by brand ? or did all switch at once ? ).

Thanks again for the input, on the id and the grips, might have to recoup some of my $ and use it to build the bike.... I'd have assumed they were originals .

That looks nice - hope mine cleans up that well.

Got laid off work, so we'll see - might give me a chance to tinker, might be busy making ends meet - sort of bittersweet... hopefulyl I can enjoy it a lil, lol.

Maybe bikes will keep me sane :) . was out riding the Free Spirit ladies 3 speed today, nice riding bike, shifts well, will hate to see that one go . ( does need a guy-friendly seat......)
