It's not an oldie, but it's in excellent condition. 20 bucks at the thrift store. I thought something must be cracked or broken, but it is all in great shape, down to the brake pads. Lightweight and the white paint has just a couple marks on it. Says USA on it. A beauty. I didn't take my hand off it because, as usual, a few people saw me interested in something and had to come sniffing around. Then the wife had to take her good old time looking at every last thing in the store, knowing I was buying yet another bike.
Anyone here know how old it might be? It's got a 6061 aluminum frame with cromoly forks.

Photo to be posted in a few hours when I get back to my computer.

Check out this web site. http://www.vintage-trek.com/ Everything you ever wanted to know about Trek bikes.
Here is a picture of one that I parted out. I still have the frame and fork for sale if anybody is interested.

I sold two last year on Craigslist one exactly like yours and a black and silver one , both Trek 1000 . I got $225 for one and $250 for the second one.

My bad. I looked again, it's Suntour, so are the brakes and chainring.

I bought it telling the wife I could resell it for a profit, but it is exactly my size, so I'm keeping it. This is the first bike I've ever had that has the schrader valves. I think that's what they are called. My portable compressor needs an adaptor to work I think.

Well, on cl, someone wanted to trade their old varsity for a road bike, and had a mountain bike to sweeten the deal. I like varsitys, so i went over to barter with the Trek. Well, it was a black varsity, needed cleaned up, but it was all there. Turns out he didn't want to trade it for the Trek, but would trade the mountain bike. Forge sawback 5xx. I said ok and took it home. It sells for $379 online only at Target, and I like more every time I ride it.

Something didn't look right, so I went to their webpage and looked. The forks are backwards.

Fork looks to be on OK, I think the one on the Target site has a different model fork. The AXEL model has the crossbrace behind the crown, some are in front.

You are right. I turned it around, and it would never work that way. It's on there right.
