Unlacing a Rear Wheel

I was trying to unlace my 50's Evans wheels today for my first build. The front wheel no problem.....screw driver and spoke wrench. Only had a few tough ones. The rear wheel however I can seem to get any of the nipples loose. Is this common? Am i doing something wrong? Do you just cut the spokes when you reach impasses on some of them?

Sometimes I find myself putting vice grips on the spoke itself while using the spoke wrench. Doesn't always work but it can help. I snip some if they're too stubborn--as long as you can get some out to measure the length.

try putting a drop of lube where the spoke goes into the nipple and another where the nipple sits in the rim, let it sit overnight and try.

If you are respoking with new stuff, a cable/lock cutter is your best choice.
