How's it goin' everyone? I need some help with info on a Schwinn Pixie II.
Ok, so I'm on my way home from work yesterday and decided to stop at this small LBS. I've always wanted to stop and check it out but it's usually already closed when I get out. Man! I couldnt believe what I had been passing everyday after work! This small shop had alot of old Schwinn's , Western Flyers, vintage BMX, Lowrider Bikes, Sting-rays I even seen a nice Elgin in great condition. Anyways, sorry for getting side tracked!

Back to the bike, so I found a really nice Schwinn Pixie II for sale. It's looks to be all original! Red paint looks to be in excellent condition, chrome fenders are in great condition, solid rubber tires, original grips and 2-tone schwinn seat. So I asked how much he wanted for it, He told me $100, seemed like a fair price to me. Only thing is that the previous owner cut the front tire, so theres a cut seperating the tire. I was planning to put on some white walls anyway so it doesnt bother me too much.

We stayed talking for a while and I got him down to $85. Should I take it for $85? Seems like a good deal to me and its pretty clean for its age. I was planning to go pick it up today after work. I forgot to take a pic yesterday so I looked online and found the exact one he has for sale. Same seat, chainguard, handle bars, frame, etc. The pic below is the exact bike!

So here are my questions about the bike...

What years were the Schwinn Pixie II made?

Is there anyway you can tell what year it is by the picture?

is $85 a good deal? It's in really nice condition...

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Re: I need help with Schwinn Pixie II

My $.02
I always look at this sort of stuff as what is it with to me. If I feel comfortable with the price then that is all that matters. Sure another one may pop up tomorrow for less/more or never again. Buy it and do a nice cleanup on it. As I see it, It surely has more character (though a child may disagree) than the sticker-emblazoned stuff that is hawked now days.

Re: I need help with Schwinn Pixie II

I see what your saying. I just wasnt sure on how much these Pixie II's go for? I figured people pay on average around $60 on a 16" Wal-Mart bike so why not pay the little extra for a classic!

Can anyone tell me what years Schwinn made the Pixie II?

Re: I need help with Schwinn Pixie II

There is a bike rental place in Wildwood NJ that has one of those bolted to the top of his sign.

I stopped to look at it and thought...What a Shame.

Re: I need help with Schwinn Pixie II

The pic above is NOT the actual bike. The actual bike is way cleaner. The pic above is one I found online but its exactly the same.

Here is the Pixie I bought and customized for my little guy. I think I paid $50 for the bike. I replaced the seat with the original Red and White design. But..I put some longer forks on it from a 20" stingray to give it a chopper look. Had it all powder coated..got some alum rims and stars and stripes grips. All spent on this was about $150. So i think the $85 you paid is great if it is as clean as you say.

GREAT BUY

Update: I went ahead and bought the Pixie yesterday after I got out of work. I think the $85 I paid for it was a fair price and I'm going to clean it up real good, wax the paint and polish the chrome. I'm going to throw on some new chrome wheels and white walls and give it to my daughter for Christmas. Took it home and snapped some pics. Here it is...

PS: Does anybody know the best way to remove the sticky residue from old stickers/decals? The front/rear fender both had on a Moto-x Fox decal and left some residue on the chrome fenders.

That was a great find. Super clean. Looks like you live in Arizona by the looks of the house and landscape.

where did you find this thing??? There is nothing like the old school bikes for the kids.

Thanks everyone for the comments! I'm real happy with it, cant wait to throw on the white walls!

naturephotoboy- Haha yes I'm in Arizona! Tucson to be exact. You from Arizona? I found this at this little LBS here in town, the name of the shop is 5-Points Bike shop. I always pass it going home from work and its already closed when i get out. So i got out early the other and stopped by to check it out. I was sure glad I did! They had alot of older beach cruiser, schwinns, western flyers, vintage bmx and alot of different bikes for everyones taste. All seemed to be reasonably priced and the owner even worked on the price for me. He's willing to deal, so I will go back soon to see what else he has to offer.

That is sweet! A little elbow grease and an SOS pad would probably fix those wheels right up.

I'm going to take off these wheels/tires because they are the solid rubber tires. I think it will be to heavy for my daughter. I think she'll do alot better with some regular wheel/tire set up and it wont be that hard on her to pedal.

Yes I am in Arizona. Live in Gilbert. I may take a drive down there sometime and check out that shop. There are a few bikes shops here but none that have anything decent to look at, just new stuff
