I won an Ebay auction for 7 bikes for $16.83. Most of them were old Wal-mart bikes that I thought I could gut for parts. One of them is a Murray Monteray Cruiser. It is a 1989, but I thought it would be fun to mess with for $16.83.
I was parting out the other bikes and I decided to see what I could build out of them. The murray was in pretty bad shape. The wheels were all screwed up. They were missing spokes and the bearings were shot. The seat was crap and the handlebar stem kept creaking. It was made of folded sheetmetal instead of cast.
So I decided to gut the mongoose for parts. The result is a Cruiser, BMX, Lowrider hybrid. It's fun to ride, but it doesn't have any brakes. I had to switch the crank arm out of one of the little bikes. It is from a Murray Glitter Girl, so this is obviously a pretty high end build. The old crank arm was too long with the 20" wheels. I might put it back on though and use the grinding pedals for brakes.
So, overall i replaced the crankarm, handlebars and stem(used the old grips), replaced the wheels with 48 spoke BMX wheels, took off the fenders and put on another crappy seat. Consider it a work in progress. i need suggestions on a better seat and some sort of brake setup. I might have to weld in a bar to mount a c brake. Now i just need to learn how to weld and buy a welder.
The bike named itself. Somebody had engraved the name Buck on the sproket in two places, hence "Buck Buck". It also reminded me of the old Bill Cosby Fat Albert story of the game they played called "Buck Buck" because the bike is big, red and awkward like fat Albert. It not a beauty, but it was fun to build in a couple of evenings.
