Picked this bike up off the CL today for a pretty low price.

Will post better photos later...it's already been given the rat treatment since I got it home.

Think fat white walls...

I was reading the other day that thats a VERY rare color on the big lightweights...
very cool

Yeah...I heard the color was pretty rare too.

I mean, how many grown men were buying purple bikes back in the 60s..ha ha.

Most of the chrome on this bike is trashed and every component on it was filled with grunge.

I guess the bike was in Louisiana so the salty air must have gotten to the chrome.

Last night I stripped everything off the bike and threw my usual set of stuff on there to see what she'd look like as a rat.

I'd prefer an old Brooks saddle and maybe some different tires, but so far it looks pretty nifty.

Very nice...

but remember purple ment something difftent in the 60's/70's, think Red line Hot Wheels, Hot Rod Mopars and Flower power...

Purple has taken on a slightly diffrent meaning these days...think Tinky Winki controversy :|

I have had to explain this to several 'younger' people when riding my violet Sting-ray

HOT ROD PRIDE!

Good point Ratfink!

Thinking about going single speed freewheel with this....or maybe just leave the coaster brake...not sure.

I think I want more narrow tires though.

It's all fun to play.

Steve, the bike looks pretty good as a rat. And the purple looks good. Now pink on guys - that was a different story.

Niagara Cycle sells some 26 x 2.125 Pyramid Pro (Kenda) cruiser tires (K130) fairly cheap (under $7 each) and they are narrow compared to the Cheng Shins of that same size. 2" wide on the Kenda's versus 2 1/4" wide on the Cheng Shins, and they also have a rounded tread area instead of flat. So you might grab a set of those sometime for these narrow frame bikes.

Oh, and your favorite - Simple Green - gets the grease off of those whitewalls and gets them sparkling white again.

all white tires would look great on this....or all black ones...

sweet. .white wall w/ a white seat w/ some matching white grips would look purteee . go freewheel

It's Baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack! (Limited edition)
