I can't believe both of my regular rides are down. And I am flat broke to boot. But, things are tough all over.

Bad rear wheel on one bike. Broken crank on the other. I'm riding in rat rod fashion 24/7 lately.

I've never managed to break an Ashtabula crank, but this (stock 2001 Schwinn Panther) is a modern BB and aluminum crank. Thanks modern technology. Especially for almost killing me on the one of the steepest hills in town. Second time I've had a crank fail. Both cheap aluminum.

Dude don't worry today Red Rocket decided to be a real snot. about a week back I jammed a crank arm, also known as the mornons stupid move a pedal stand, and I was sure it wasn't too bad. Well today that arm failed, that's right. An old cast iron arm. It failed during my hammering across a major street. I lost control wrecked my shoulder which is siezing up pretty good now and was nearly run over by a fire engine returning to the station. the bike itself is ok. But it's been nasty from abrasion tire failure to another flat from a nail. She has a serious attitude I think Betty Page and a Roller Derby Girl posses this darn thing. when things break they break. The thing is, at least I know how to fix it and will be rolling in no time. Just am angry at the down time to fix it. Lucky I have a president of the vintage CCM chapter who's a friend and another friend who is a bike guru. So parts are close by and technical advice is at hand.

I wish I had a machine shop I would make high end stuff, sure the price would be high but I would guarantee the stuff would not break for at least a year maybe 2? under normal wear.

remember my bike is about a 1939/40 CCM that things has been through hell and back so for things to go wrong it's expected.

The frame creaks and it's kinda harry but she's a tough bike I ride her, until now, to work every day.

Look at car racers, sometimes they go whole season blowing engines and trannies and getting flats....as the french say Ce la vie; such is life.

Ouch! Thankfully, you have the Canadian heath care system. Hope you are feeling better soon. Congrats for being the first person I know to break a single piece crank. Red Rocket is a sweet bike BTW.

Ever notice how tough it is to look cool while lying in the street wincing in pain? :D

You are right about life and things breaking. When stuff starts going bad, it's entropy in action. Last season, it was daily pinch flats and a badly sprained knee. This season, bad cranks and broken rear wheels.
