Hello,

I'm currently located in Baltimore, MD and looking to buy a quality motorized board track racer or motorized rat rod for reliable city transportation.

Are there any local builders?
Whats best 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke?

Since I'm new to this venture, any leads or info would be great.

Thanks,
Vintage Power

I have a motorized rat, '61 Western Flyer. You can pick up a complete 2 stroke kit for less than $200 online. I would suggest building your own. The kits are simple to install and you don't have to worry about what gremlins are tagging along with a used bike.

That's right, it's so much more fun to create your own gremlins!

Be sure to check with local laws regarding the operation of a motorized bicycle. I think that this can vary greatly depending on location. Here in NY State, only very few approved manufactured bikes (like Whizzer) are allowed. Anything that's a conversion is flat out disallowed. People do it, and you see them on CL once in a while, but it is illegal. You can be ticketed for it, so just make sure that this won't be an issue for you. Otherwise, I would've built one or two myownself... Your local/state DMV office is the best source of info as far as I can tell, but there are websites that deal in this: http://motorbicycling.com/
