Picked this up from a friend of a friend. Thought it was a Colson from the pics, but turns out it is badged as a Western Flyer. Hopefully the tank will fit a Colson, bought it for the fenders and curved braces. Has a skiptooth chainring that looks like a Shelby. Photo from a CL ad, it's still in my truck and truck is at the mechanic. Will post a better photo when it's home.

Re: Western Flyer -- Shelby Built?

Hi,

Your bike was built for Western Autos by the Cleveland Welding Company. It is hard to see the configuration of the rear drop outs in the small picture but they look like the type used from about 1949-1953

Unfortunately (for your Colson Project) The sheet metal parts used by CWC and Colson were proprietary and none of them are the same. The tank in particular is a different shape than the Colson girl’s tank and they will not physically interchange. The fenders and curved braces are also proprietary designs and visually quite different although there is no reason other than the alignment of the mounting holes that the parts won’t physically interchange.

Re: Western Flyer -- Shelby Built?

Is that a 24" wheel bike or 26"? I could be interested in the tank if 24". I have a Murray/Huffy/Higgins tank to trade that is solid but house painted ugly.

Western Flyer - Updated Photos

This one is going to just sit and be picked at. Donating the chain to one project and fenders to another. Wheelset too. Too bad I sold the men's frame I had a while ago.
