Picked this one up today, kinda psyched I like Westfield bikes. It might end up being my first build off bike if I can find the time.
Any Ideas on the rack and chain gaurd? Almost certain they are not original. How about the make shift kids seat with the foot pegs?
must have been before kids seats and helmets. The seat and lucky 7 were just placed there by me, it came with no seat(for the driver).

Maybe the chaingaurd and the rack both came from the same Elgin. After looking at a bunch of pictures it lookes like Schwinn and Elgin used this nine hole type rack that mounts to the axle but the Elgin ones looked like they had the adjustment holes and the Schwinn didn't. They are also the same color and patina which is different then the rest of the bike which was painted up in house paint. I don't know. You will find them in the for sale section shortly.
Thanks for the help.

Prewar Schwinn racks like yours attached to the axle. Post war had shorter struts and attached to the ears on the frame. It also looks like your bike has the shorty frame. I'd guess it's a 16" frame, measured from the BB to the top of the seat tube.(18" is standard on old ballooners) I say that because of the angle the rack is sitting on the rear fender. Nice bike if you have short legs! Gary
