I had some bikes for sale on my car roof...kinda like a billboard for bike sales, While at church we had a guest worship team that travels all over the states called the Son Catchers, long story short she asked about getting a mountain bike, no problem !!, I have this newer Schwinn to clean up and put a wheel & tire on it along with some cables, I told her $50....so the deal is made, and then she asked if I could swap the bars, since she is tall and she wants her old ones put on, she said I could have the rest of the bike. so I told her I could get rid of the twist grip shifters for old style thumb shifters, Then I sat down and thought wow what the heck am I doing for $50 bucks, oh well geter done !!! and I have plans for the Huffy ,it could make a nice singlespeed cruiser (loose the forks)

Good times. I sold that pink Univega to a friend for his daughter for $ 100.00. She didn't like the old thumbshifters and riser bar so i decided to swap over the drivetrain from a newer schwinn mtb. Rear triangle needed to be re-alighned for the wider rear hub, swap out bottom bracket spindle, original stem was a 21.1mm (took a week to find a replacment one of those). Got it all thogether and the front trigger shifter was junk (-$ 15.00 for one of those). Good thing my time is worthless :D

So far I am loosing to this one, I spent half a day trying to put a decent wheel on the back, WHY ? Let me tell ya , I had an old mt bike wheel in mind to put on, hub turned out to be junk, I had three others follow suit, So I finally get one that looks decent ,spins ok, So I start to dissassemble and notice the inner cone nut has some pits and is starting to wear out, so I walk over to my parts trays and realize my plastic shelve is on overload and about ready to collapse, So I end up pulling all of my boxes out and go thru them and get rid of the shelve, then I finally found a nut, put the wheel together, mount the tube and tire, go to install and then realize the alignment is way off, straighten that out and then realize the frame is off just a bit..... :x , so the adventure continues on this one, I walked away and finished a couple other projects just to realize things can go right sometimes. I finally got the three speed working on my fastback and changed the crank on my Redline Cruiser 8)

Just got back from vacation and spent too much time on this, considering nothing went right , I found out its not worth the hassle of trying to reuse cables, especially with the twist grip shifters, I also found out why I have so many rear mt bike wheels in my junk pile , because they were JUNK !!!, so I spent way too much time trying to true up wheels, and find out the nipple on the spokes were rounded or the hub was junk ect..., but I got it done and she was happy and gave me $85 + 2 cds that they recorded and a book she wrote, and a promise that if they ever make it big , she won't forget about me  , so as long as she was happy ,I guess I learned a few things....leave the newer mt bikes in the pile

Or convert them to single speed or fixie

Back when I was in high school I was the resident "computer guy" for most of my church and friends and I would always end up in a similar situation. I ended up getting wise about it and stopped taking cash for side jobs and only barter in goods and services now. Favors, trades, or even just a really nice home cooked meal are usually more rewarding that a little cash. :D Also some people seem to be less demanding when $$ isn't involved.

Looks like you did a great job on the bike though!
