I have to paint a bike name on a chrome guard in black. The only black primer I can find for less than $22 is not etch.

If I don't use etch, will the primer just scrape right off? Will etch grab it and be strong enough to make it worth $22?

Hey Crash, anytime that I paint on chrome, I use duplicolor adhesion promoter. If the chrome is clean it will stick. The adhesion promoter is clear, it was originally designed so that you can spray a candy color over the chrome for a anodized look. But, it works fine with solid colors too.

Agreed, I painted a chrome rat trap fork with it, then black, it's been really durable. You can get the adhesion promoter at Advance Auto or any chain parts store...good luck bro!

One Shot (if you go that way) is sometimes tough to find, other than online. There's an art supply store that has a limited selection of colors, but there's a autobody supply store that has all kinds. I just Googled One Shot to find a supplier near me.
