I am going to look at a boys Schwinn B6 (around 1948-50) that has a springer fork, no tank, wrong seat and has been painted by some previous owner. It will need tires also.
What is a reasonable ball park price for this bike ?
Is there anything that I should look out for ?

Look at the wheels to make sure they are in good shape. Rusty chains and bearings can be fixed easily. Maybe take a wrench to loosen the stem and see if it moves freely. Stuck stems and seatpost are very frustrating but not the end all.

The springer fork is probably worth $80 -150 depending on condition and if it is the locking version. In my area, for a non original bike like you describe in restorable/rebuildable condition, price range would be $100-200 with the Schwinn fork.
