I know that this appears to be a repro with a possibility of some original parts on it. I'd like to add some decals to the bike, but I need to know what kind of Schwinn does this bike represent, i.e. Phantom, Exelcior, etc.

Thanks.

where and what is the serial #?if its close to the # on the remains of my 200X.
its got the claw decals like the old dx/hornets/wasps
also post some pics of the tabs for the chain guard and the tubes where they meet the headtube as well as the rear fender mount(the top at the rear triangle)

The serial number is on the bottom of the crankcase.

I bought these decals and want to know if they're even semi-correct. I know that it's not a Deluxe Hornet. I just bought them because it was cheaper to get the set than buying the decals piece by piece.

yeah thats one of the newer chinese ones
well since you have the decals for it already id go ahead and do the claws on it just make sure you glaze the welds so it looks like it was brazed originally

The plan was to do the "Schwinn" claws and the circular decals. I also want to put a decal on the chainguard, but don't think that the "Deluxe Hornet" is correct. Isn't this bike close to a Phantom (less the springer front fork)? However, I've googled images of the Hornet version and the bikes have regular front forks like on mine, except that the chainguard was different.

I'll probably slap all of the decals on the bike. I'm not concerned with originality as much since it's a repop. Only the Schwinn purists or someone knowledgeable would point out the error to me.

If you're not planning a complete repaint I would leave the joints alone so as not to draw attention to them, but if you do paint, might as well fill in the head so it looks like the forged version. :|

I don't have any plans of restoring this bike any time soon. Maybe just a touch-up here and there. Since it's a Chinese repop, no reason to dump $$$ and time into it. Plus, I'm not afraid to ride it as is. I'd be worried if it was fully restored. I just want to apply the decals to make the bike look complete. Also need to find a Schwinn badge for it.

of im not mistaken.....the hornets all had the straight bar(im not a schwinnophile so i may be mistaken)
the wasps had a canti frame(with claw paint job) and yes it was the same frame as the phantom and the b6. its actually easier to do scallops on those anyhow....

Just googled images of a B6 and my bike closely resembles it. Looks like I'll be leaving the Hornet decal off the chainguard. Now, if I could only find some truss rods that will fit...

if youve got a balloon frame / forks ive got truss rods and no-light fenders. id say your closest to the b6, your other options had chrome canti tanks or the later (60's style) tank decals.

wow sensor this one is from back in my resto days and sorry you are wrong about hornets as i had a 54 canti hornet in the green mens with a straight blade fork. however i think you are correct about wasps mostly being canti. i would stretch it and paint it pink but thats just me. just kidding toss the decals on it and run it !!
