A while back, I posted pix of a 24" Columbia frame in Fresh Finds. I planned on swapping everything I could from a 24" girl's Murray cruiser I have and build it for my 11 year old son. However, I'm having trouble finding forks for the Columbia, as it has a really short head tube compared to every other bike I have that is a 24" or 26". I do not want to put a repop springer on this bike.
I just picked up a brand new 24" Huffy cruiser off CL for $50.00. My reasoning is that the price is right, it's new, and I would have spent a lot more that that building the Columbia (getting the frame stripped, powdercoated, etc.) Also, I don't think I would have had it done by Christmas, which, in my case, was just bumped up to December 14th cuz my step kids are going out of state with their dad.
So, what to do with the Columbia? Hang on to it, sell it, sell the girl's Murray, or should I still build the Columbia like I intended? If I build it, I can get away with leaving it patina'd (very patina'd), which would look cool. Anyone have ideas on the forks? I've also heard that the seat post tube is smaller, but have not verified this yet. I' m open to your ideas, thoughts, input, suggestions, and opinions.
Thanks, Mike
