Found a motorized bicycle locally. Newer walmart huffy with an 80cc engine, runs great etc. Whats it worth?

Should I find out what brand the engine is, etc? I don't know anything about these

Well the engine kits are like $89 on E-bay so $89 + the cost of the bike it's on, being it's a Walmart Huffy ($89) I'd pass the bearings are junk and I wouldn't trust them at 30+ MPH. $178 you could buy the bike and engine brand new and put it together in half an hour. I'd say a fair price would be in the $100-$150 range if it looks good. Personally I'd buy a good used Schwinn and Buy an engine kit for a bike that can take the extra speed and torque.

He was asking $180. I saw 2 others that the guy wanted $500-$700 for. (Same bike and motor brand new)

I didnt realize the motors were that cheap. My plan would have been to swap the motor to a stronger older frame anyways. I don't trust the walmart bikes either.

Evidently, the legality of these things varies from area to area. Research that yourself, don't assume that the guy saying they're legal means they're legal. Anyway, if they're not legal to ride on the road, the value is just about zero. (Note also that some places have a limit on motor size, which is usually 50cc.) The once or twice I've heard one running, it had about all the charm of riding a bike with a chainsaw running. Loud and annoying, but not in a cool Harley way, in a dweebish model-airplane way.

To put it in perspective, I think I might have seen ONE of these around here one time. There's lots of people that want to sell you the motor, and a few that want to sell the bike with a motor on it, but practically no one actually using them locally.

Very true, I have built a few of them to sell and rarely ever got my money back out of them, A moped is far more practical. These are okay but the brakes are not designed for 30+ MPH, same for the bearings and a lot of other components. They are made pretty cheap and the road vibration is horrid, stuff brakes every other time you ride it. I've just had nothing but bad luck with them. Now on the other hand if you build a bike around the engine kit it's a great way to go. They are a cheap and effective power-plant. Just remember when choosing components that you will be going 30+MPH on it, so build it accordingly (shocks, heavy duty rims, comfortable seats, solid frame, GOOD BRAKES, exc.)
