Looks like a 50's wasp to me ... tank looks like a reproduction (is it a decal?), seat looks like a 70's/80's mesinger, grips look like replacements. looks like the guards been painted and stickered, rack and springer are probably add ons but is suppose they could of came on the bike from the shop. Cool bike !!

its a 60 acording to the frame serial numbers i cant look at it till next week to see all the little details you were talking about! i thought about that also...(decal) so all the lettering should be paint on an original...but now that we know for sure this frame is 1960 did they make a phantom that looked like this in 60?

I didn't think that the Phantom was built as late as 1960. And I'm pretty sure they didn't come in white/black. The sprocket is wrong for a Phantom, not to mention the lack of chrome fenders, etc.

the tank could be an original schwinn part, but i think its a wasp (tank would have came from another bike) I think that lettering started around 59 and was usually found on the jaguars. no black and white phantoms that i know of. a black phantom would of said "black phantom" on the c/g, the red and green phantoms just said "phantom"

Black Phantoms always had red accents, chrome fenders, and a 4 hole rear rack, plus a tan seat. Last Phantoms rolled out in early '59. This is a 60 Wasp with an added Phantom decal on the guard, and added tank. You could order the Wasp w/a springer also. Here's my '59 Wasp, with later seat. -Adam

That looks like a phantom with a wasp decal ... Just kidding man. That's exactly what I was thinking just someone added a tank / rack and tried to paint the guard and slapped a decal on it. Wasp had the heavy duty wheels too right ? Or was that just on spitfires ?
